Takes Care Specialist Centres offers a wide range of Psychiatry Services in Brisbane. We offer psychiatry services through face-to-face and Telehealth services across all Brisbane and regional areas, respectively.

Due to our central location, which is only just over 7 km away from the Brisbane CBD area, Takes Care Specialist centre is only minutes aways from surrounding suburbs, such as Camp Hill, Coorparoo, and Morningside. In addition, as it is close to public transport and has ample parking available, it is easy to reach from various Brisbane areas, e.g., s western suburbs, and other areas close to the Brisbane CBD areas like Windsor and Hamilton. 

Adult Psychiatry

All psychiatrists treat people who are older than 17 years old for a wide range of mental health disorders. These include manifestations of “organic” brain disorders, psychosis, trauma, anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, and bipolar disorders. Furthermore, our psychiatrists can provide a range of assessments for various purposes, such as Workcover.

Adolescent Psychiatry

Our adolescent psychiatrist can provide for assessment and treatment for young people (older than 12 years old), experiencing challenges, such as self-harm, depression and eating disorders. (Brisbane metropolitan & Telehealth eligible regional areas)

Geriatric Psychiatry

Our geriatric psychiatrist can provide assessment and management of mental health disorders of older people. This is available in the following areas:

• Brisbane and regional-based nursing homes
• Brisbane suburban areas, during the COVID-19
• Telehealth eligible regional areas

What to Expect

The first appointment with a psychiatrist can be overwhelming. We have provided a blog that provides tips for assisting you to prepare and know what to expect at your first appointment. This blog provides important tips, such as preparing a list of questions that you may wish to ask your psychiatrist and your expectation for your psychiatrist reaching a diagnosis. 

Overview of your psychiatry consults 

1. At your first appointment, your psychiatrist will listen to your concerns, discussing the reasons behind your referral.
2. Your psychiatrist will also ask you questions about your general health. It is therefore important to have your current list of medication, including any psychiatric as well as other medications.
3. Your psychiatrist may order some tests e.g. blood test or an imaging.
4. Another area of that is important to your psychiatrist for discussion is your family history.
5. You may also wish to come along with a companion. Your companion needs to be someone close to you that you know well and has your trust.
6. It may take a few sessions for your psychiatrist to reach to a diagnosis. As in some cases, the diagnosis may or may not change, you may wish to discuss this with your psychiatrist, during your appointment.
7. Together with you and possibly your loved ones, your psychiatrist will develop a tailor plan that is right for you.
8. The developed treatment plan will combination of therapies that will suit your health needs, personal preferences, family situation and age. This may or may not include medications, psychotherapy or referring you to another health professional, such as a psychologist.
